Logistics Manager

The Job

Industrial Equipment Logistics (IEL), a subsidiary of Hartwig, Inc, is a heavy-haul transportation company specializing exclusively in transporting CNC machines and accessory products. A Logistics Manager monitors the progress of each shipment, hold carriers accountable for performance, and provides customers with ongoing updates to ensure the alignment of delivery with scheduled rigging companies.

Main responsibilities of this part-time position:

  • Develops and maintains lasting relationships with customers delivering industry leading customer service.
  • Using Load Board shipment data, reviews quote requests, calculates mileage, equipment, permits and sets profit margins.
  • Communicates rates, negotiates pricing and handles invoicing.
  • Assign trucking companies to loads, create load confirmations, confirming important information (i.e. pick-up and delivery location information, dock hours, reference numbers, creates Bill of Lading).
  • Tracks shipment progress/location using GPS software, updates related parties, and holds trucking companies accountable.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues that occur while the shipment is in transit and communicates with all related parties.
  • Maintains customer database on brokerage software.
  • Handles damage claims, interacts with customers and insurance companies, and facilitates a timely resolution of claims.
  • Meet and exceed set profit margin goals.
  • Builds Preferred Carrier base by working with IEL management to identify and contact potential trucking companies.
  • Consistently looks for opportunities to improve processes and the customer experience.

The Skills

Individuals who ideally fit this role should meet the following qualifications:

  • Must have solid experience with using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, & Excel), Google Docs and Google Sheets.
  • 3+ years equivalent logistics work experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written/email skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Professional and proactive attitude building long-term relationships with customers and trucking companies.
  • Capable of working independently and follows established processes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem solving skills.
  • 2+ years of load board experience and non-asset truck brokerage experience.
