Human Resources Generalist

The Job

A Human Resources Generalist contributes to the success of Hartwig by handling administrative and strategic responsibilities and helping the company to plan and administer important functions in the following areas: employee relations, recruitment, benefits, and compliance programs. The Generalist will partner with the Human Resources Manager and Payroll Specialist on various projects to evolve HR strategically to support company and team member growth.

Main responsibilities of this full-time position based in the St. Louis area include:

  • Supports the recruitment process by assisting with college or trade school relationships, sourcing options, compliance and branding. May assist with job postings, coordinating interviews, pre-hire assessments and background checks
  • Manages onboarding process that includes welcome gifts, new employee orientation, completion and tracking of new hire documents/checklist and personnel file creation/maintenance
  • Manages training compliance that includes but it not limited to new hire, safety and anti-harassment training
  • Supports benefit administration by meeting with new team members, handles team member inquiries, assists with annual open enrollment, prepares insurance related departure paperwork and updates various systems and lists as required
  • Manages annual compliance activity and reporting (i.e. 401k notifications, EEOC, OSHA, as well as contractor certifications)
  • Partners with HR Manager and Payroll Specialist to create and deliver various communications that support benefits, financial wellness, and other information that reinforce company culture
  • Responds to employment-related inquiries from applicants, team members, and managers, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the HR Manager
  • Partners with HR Manager to analyze and communicate annual Affirmative Action Plans and identify process improvements to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures
  • Works with team members at each location to ensure first aid/AED training is completed and federal and state legal employment law posting requirements are met
  • Collects and analyzes information and prepares detailed reports as needed
  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of federal and state employment law, industry trends, current practices and new developments

The Skills

Individuals who ideally fit this role should meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field required.
  • Minimum four years Human Resource experience required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and compliance driven
