The Job

Hartwig is one of the nation's leading CNC machine tool distributors. Our Application Engineers focus on time studies, customer training, turnkey projects and programming. They also work hand-in-hand with our Sales team to provide support and be a technical resource.

An Application Manager contributes to the success of Hartwig, and its customers, by providing exceptional overall management of the Applications team. The customers we serve are in a variety of industries and rely on the Hartwig team to provide the best manufacturing solutions and support for the CNC machine tool industry. This full-time position is based in the Dallas, TX and will support a region that covers northern Texas and Oklahoma. Relocation is available.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Mentoring a team of 4 Application Engineers
  • Selling and promoting Application Engineers' capabilities to internal and external customers
  • Traveling with sales team members to provide technical knowledge in the sales process
  • Coordinating schedules and resources to ensure Hartwig customers receive excellent training
  • Coordinate support with various industry vendors for training events and open houses
  • Project management on large scale projects
  • Tracking and monitoring all time study and conversions which have turned into CNC machine tool sales orders
  • Managing the interoffice billing for all Application Engineer hours
  • Participating in turnkey quoting, risk management, cost and payout to establish and achieve turnkey quoting and margin goal
  • Training Application Engineers on specific CNC machines, controls, software, etc.
  • Ensuring that customers have access to first class learning events
  • Educating Application Engineers on how to review orders and quotes
  • Communicating with Regional Presidents on turnkey allocations and Application Engineers' training schedules
  • Identifying and communicating Application Engineer staffing needs
  • Managing department expenses and projects within approved budget
  • Creating and executing new hire training plans and annual goals for department team members, working collaboratively with them to develop departmental target goals

The Skills

Individuals who ideally fit this role should meet the following qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the CNC machining process development, project management, and CNC programming required
  • Previous management or supervisory experience in a CNC machine environment required
  • Associate's degree in Manufacturing Engineering preferred
  • Five (5) years Application Engineer experience preferred
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Knowledge and use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) required
  • Be able to read and understand basic G & M codes
  • Okuma machine programming experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of application of machine tool products, options, and functions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills such as collaboration, listening, respect and work ethic, with lead to lasting and trusting relationships with team members and customers
  • Proficiency in MS Office software, Gantt Charts, CAD/CAM software and PCs
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow through
